What to try, in order
- Choose a supportive bed (AAHA lists "appropriate beds"). A low entry height matters as much as thickness for arthritic dogs.
- Put the bed on a non-slip surface so it doesn't slide when your dog gets up.
- Keep the sleeping area warm and away from stairs.
- Keep a short log or video of how your dog moves for your vet. AAHA recommends videos to track pain and response to treatment.
