🦮 Can't walk far / back legs giving out

"she's 16 years old and her back legs are getting weaker and weaker and sometimes I have to help her too" (real owner post)

What to try, in order

  1. Use a rear sling on walks so your dog can keep moving with you taking some of the weight.
  2. If the back legs can't bear weight for more than a few steps, a rear-support wheelchair lets your dog walk and toilet on their own.
  3. Wheelchairs are sized by weight and rear leg height (measured lying down for Walkin' Wheels). Measure carefully.
  4. Ask about physical rehab or hydrotherapy. AAHA lists rehabilitation as a core option for mobility.
Talk to your vet: Progressive hind-end weakness can be degenerative myelopathy, IVDD, or orthopedic disease. A diagnosis changes which aids make sense.
